Tokyo, Japan, January 30, 2017 - Foster Electric is pleased to announce that it is now a signatory of the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC), the world's largest corporate sustainability initiative, and is listed as a participant company as of January 19th.

 

With the Foster Group's corporate creed, "Sincerity", and the vision, "To make contributions for future society through acoustics", Foster has initiated activities to respond and contribute to the requirements of the global community as a good corporate citizen. By endorsing the U.N. Global Compact, Foster pledges to support and promote the UNGC's 10 principles in the areas of Human Rights, Labour, Environment and Anti-Corruption. Foster will continue to reinforce our activities such as compliance, decent working conditions, environmental care and CSR procurement, and will further seek opportunities to support broader societal goals, such as the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), through the UNGC. We will communicate our efforts and progress of activities through our CSR reports, etc.

 

UNGC is the spontaneous effort by companies and corporations as good citizens in the society for realizing sustainable development by exerting responsible and innovative leadership. By endorsing UNGC, leaders of participating companies and corporations will be committing to 10 principles of protecting human rights, corresponding to environmental protection, and preventing corruption to give persistent effort for realization.

 

The Ten Principles of the UN Global Compact

Human Rights

Principle 1: Businesses should support and respect the protection of internationally proclaimed human rights; and
Principle 2: make sure that they are not complicit in human rights abuses.

Labour

Principle 3: Businesses should uphold the freedom of association and the effective recognition of the right to collective bargaining;
Principle 4: the elimination of all forms of forced and compulsory labour;
Principle 5: the effective abolition of child labour; and
Principle 6: the elimination of discrimination in respect of employment and occupation.

Environment

Principle 7: Businesses should support a precautionary approach to environmental challenges;
Principle 8: undertake initiatives to promote greater environmental responsibility; and
Principle 9: encourage the development and diffusion of environmentally friendly technologies.

Human Rights

Principle 10: Businesses should work against corruption in all its forms, including extortion and bribery.
